IMG_2365 (1).jpg

Whether you heard a loud pop from a pebble hitting the windshield or other type of debris causing the damage, it is time to decide on what to do next.  Here are the pro's and con's on repairing the damage, replacing the windshield, and no repair or replacement options.  Decide which option works best for you.

Rock chip/crack repair

Pro:

  • Do not have to replace windshield

  • Quick repair

  • Lifetime warranty (not transferable)

  • Insurance may wave deductible for repair which means no cost for repair

  • Mobile repair

  • Prevents damage from spreading or becoming larger

  • May minimize damage visibly

Con:

  • Damage may still be visible after repair

  • Insurance may not wave deductible which would be out of pocket expense

  • Not able to repair in driver's line of site, in camera view, in black area of glass, or if damage is into the second layer of glass

  • Worst case scenario: glass may crack further while trying to repair since is already broken

Windshield replacement

Pro:

  • Glass will not have any damage

  • Glass is completely clear

  • Mobile repair

  • Adds value back to vehicle

Con:

  • Higher cost- customer charged with insurance deductible or out of pocket expense for entire windshield replacement

  • Longer repair time(Car will not be able to be driven for a few hours after repair)

No repair or replacement option

Pro:

  • No cost

Con:

  • Glass damage may continue to get larger or spread to different areas of windshield

  • Illegal in some states (may fail safety requirements and required to have glass damage repaired)

  • Depreciates vehicle cost or trade-in

  • Safety concern with damaged windshield(windshield is additional support in case of accident, a damaged windshield may not provide proper support when damaged)
